So now that the 'Welcoming in' part has been done, I think I'd like to ring in the new year by fessing up to something pretty bad... I did almost no work on my personal projects at all last year.

I did get 4/5ths of the script for a Children's picture book done and I finished writing that creative exercise script, but no actual work on any of the stuff I really want to get done (actually the kids book is KINDA part of it, but only as a fun side thing to the WHOLE creative picture).

So without further adieu, my 2013 New Years Resolution:

* Complete the script for at least one of my actual stories
* Rent a house that has space for a dedicated creative room for writing, drawing, podcasting and voice work
- Once I have this house, spend at least 1 hour a week on a random fun sketch/ picture/ creative exercise
* Join a gym and go a minimum 3x per week (fingers crossed on a speedy recovery for the foot)

Here we go! Let's have a great 2013!

Hey guys!

Wow, this is awesome. I have literally been waiting years for this feature to be added to DeviantART; the ability to change your account's name.

It is an unfortunate and slightly sad day when you no longer want to be called by the gaming handle you spent all of Highschool and College using, but it really is time (I think) to hang up the ol' "Spock" alias (or at least on social media sites) that I have been using (well that and variations on it eg. SpockNZ, Spock-tM, [S]poc[K]) since 1997.

It's a little sad, but I'd much rather have my name as my account these days, as apposed to that of a fictional character from a show I had barely seen before using, and still have yet to see more than 1 or 2 full episodes, not including the recently released movie.

For those that didn't know, the reason I used that username was initially because; being the unique and witty 12 year olds my new Kiwi classmates were (I had just moved back to NZ after 10 years in Australia), Spock was the first name that came to mind when they saw my pointy ear. Amusingly though, I am a bit of an anomaly, having an extra unknown organ; thought to be a baby spleen, and grew into the name by becoming quite a logical thinking person. I am a firm believer that a nickname should be given, not chosen; so with that in mind, this name that began as an insult turned into something of a badge of honor when I entered the world of gaming and the internet.

For games, I think I will continue using the Spock-tM alias (you can find me on Xbox Live as "Spock tM"), but everything else, you'll see me as LukeBatt or LukeB4tt when the proper one isn't available.

Life is moving on, things are a little cramped at the moment, moved into a MUCH smaller place studying radio and hopefully sometime in the next few months I'll be in a house or flat that will afford me the space to set my drawing desk back up and I can start creating more than words again.

I have sort of wasted the time I have had off after the surgery I had recently (reconstructive surgery in my right foot after tearing the fibres between the tendon and ligament near my ankle). I have been bed ridden, and although I had a good setup for games/ movies right next to my desk, writing and drawing were difficult to do in decent bursts due to the keyboard resting on my legs while I sat in bed with my leg elevated. I did manage to do a little bit, but I'm guessing it had more to not being in the mood and not having the focus and drive that I needed to get the words out of my head in a coherent manner... excuses excuses right, but HEY, it happened, and I just hope I can decide to motivate myself in the near future and get these ideas made real :)

I guess that's all I have to say right now. So until next time, Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah and Happy Holidays to all.

Still Alive.

1 min read
Yo, long time no post.

One would think that I had left this place for good, but as it happen I just haven't had any work to upload. I am currently working on several scripts for my own projects, but I have posted something that I have been working on in my spare time as a way to ignite my creative juices. It's the script for the first 33 pages of a web comic I'd love to find the time to draw, if anyone wishes to take a crack at any of the Panel's/Pages, feel free. It's a fun little story and just a way to practice writing when I don't want to work on my other pieces :)

HEY! Until next time, stay classy DA ;)

Been a while since I updated my journal.... not sure if there is really much point either, it sucks but I hardly ever read other people's journal's these days, I'm usually not on the computer long enough... or at least not on DA long enough, feel bad because I haven't put any art up in 10 months, so it just makes me feel down being on here looking at all this awesome stuff and I'm hardly ever contributing to it :) :/

Anyway, since my last update I've done a bit of stuff.... art and life wise. I'm currently in the states, right now, on the free computer in the basement of a HI Hostel in Baltimore to be exact. Came here 2 days ago so that I could go to the Baltimore City Comic Con, was great, met a whole lot of great Artists and Writers, went to a bunch of panels; some of which I'm sorry to say I was falling asleep in, SORRY! I was really tired, wanted to listen to everything but I'm just so fatigued.

Today just before the 'Image United' panel started, I had a little conversation with Robert Kirkman at the front stage on the mic, was cool, we just talked about nothing, apparently his beard has never been itchy, which I am very jealous of. This little chat ended with me being told to stop by his booth, which I did, and was given a 1-in-100 limited edition variant cover version of his new comic series being drawn by RyanOttley and inked by Todd McFarlane, very cool.

Also purchased a few awesome pieces of art one by the great JasonHoward; which, when I get home and setup, will be scanning and doing my best at colouring. Speaking of pieces of art I bought, wya.deviantart.com/art/Invinci… is now mine.

Been in America since mid-June, playing Lifeguard at the Henry Kaufman Campgrounds in Pearl River, just outside New York. That was a lot of fun, met some great people and drew a whole bunch of pictures.... well.... not that many, but a few, many more to be done when I get home. After being a lifeguard, went to DeKalb, just outside Chicago and caught up with my sisters, during my stay there I packed up and went to Seattle for a week to attend the Penny Arcade Expo, which was awesome, had a chance to play Mass Effect 2, Dragon Age: Origins, Brutal Legend, Saboteur, Hack/Slash and a bunch of other neat games that haven't come out yet.

So, I'm only in America for 5 days, which is great, except that 3.5 of those days I'm on a bus headed for LA.... Really, REALLY should have chosen the Plane option. When I get back to NZ I'll be in Auckland for 9 days, during which I'll be attending Armageddon, so that'll be fun....

anyhow..... I guess this was just a quick update, I'll see about getting some art up in a few weeks, till then, enjoy :)

Merry Christmas people! Or something like that anyway... tis the season and I probably won't have another Journal entry this year.... maybe, and I thought I'd upload a few things from the travelling I did a few years back that I found lying around with all my other piles of stuff I need to organize and finish :)

I have been without a computer that would allow me to do any colouring for AGES now, I've been so procastinationally busy this last year that I haven't really had the time to sit down a dedicate myself with what really matters, putting pretty colours on awesome art.... or drawing stuff... I bought myself some nice big art boards back in October while I was at Armageddon up in Auckland, so maybe that'll be my new years resolution that I tried to make a few months back; to, every night after work, dedicate myself to an hour or two of creativity, be that drawing, colouring or writing or whatever, I'd really like it if I could do that

I've applied to go to Camp America next year, just bought a new scanner today so that I could 1: scan and upload the new pics in my gallery and too 2: Scan my Character reference sheets for their site, I couldn't get my hands on a friends one around here, and before last Thursday I had no money (except savings), so the last few weeks they've been expecting me to get them up there and I haven't had the equipment to get it done! Now I have and it is done! or.... it will be once I finish this journal ;) I hope the experience will be fun, I'm really looking forward to it.... if I'm accepted that is :)

Anyway... today I went down to the Strand Office Supplies store to see if they had any markers, I'd like to try my hand at doing basic marker work then inking some pieces of art, it's interested me for a while now, and they are the only place in town that I think would sell them... unfortunately they were closed.... so I'll have to try tomorrow :)

I thikn that's enough of a rant from me for tonight..... I think I'll finish uploading these Character refs to Camp America and then sit down to a little...... Dead Space? Maybe... or perhaps some Mortal Kombat vs. The DC Universe.... OR Mirrors Edge, that's an awesome game.... yeh.... one of those I think,

Catch ya,

Luke Batt.
